Screen, Turn On by Jason McCue

During the throes of lockdown, Jason wrote and recorded the songs that would comprise his new album: Screen, Turn On (to be released 9/9/22 on Fluff and Gravy Records). When the world turns off, it seems like every interaction, every feeling, every disaster, and every beautiful thing can fall into one of two categories: something that’s on a screen and something that’s not.

Screen, Turn On is a celebration of what’s not on a screen. It’s about friends, family, and the love that exists between it all. It’s a single drop of positivity in an ocean full of notifications and pixels. It’s a message to loved ones that, even though everything seems broken, a friend will have another friend’s back.

The dynamic range of Screen, Turn On covers a lot of ground, from the introspective and quiet ballad, “Santa Fe”, to the thrillingly heavy conclusion that is “Everything Is Good”.

Recommended tracks include “Ceiling” (the first single, released July 29),  with it’s reverb-soaked electric guitar solos, sand soaring, “Tempted” (the second single, to be released August 19), and the ballad “Flies and Birds”, touching on themes of loneliness and the restorative power of voice and song.

Notable on this record (in comparison to his others) is the prominence of the electric guitar, as Jason uses it to weave intricate melodies full of poignancy and heartbreak throughout the tracks.  Taking center stage as always is Jason’s singular voice and shimmering falsetto

Screen, Turn On will be released digitally on Friday, September 9th via Fluff and Gravy Records.
